hi, the events over the weekend just showed how corruption (deception and betrayal) can destroy this country. i was, and i'm sure a lot of you were also
affected by what these young, bright but desperate officers did to make the government and the elder officials listen and act on these serious issues. many
of us who work in ngos are here because of our idealism and seriousness of purpose, that we can make a difference, that what we do is important and make a contribution in making this country/ our society a better one.
i think what they did was wrong, but many of us who are reaching the point of desperation sometimes, or often commit stupid things because of desperation and cynicism. some of my friends have gone to the mountains to join the npa, others have joined the abb but later quit, others fled to other countries, others simply gave up (including their ideals). i'd like to believe that idealism is not just a phase in one's life, like youth, but more like a strong feeling inside us that resonates with what is true.
i think we should start a discussion/movement of young people/professionals like us, we can even invite these officers to just talk, let off steam, about what is happening. it is our time, we will soon be the adults who will be shaping our society, i think it is time to define that society now.
